On the morning of April 9, Xu Liyi, member of the Standing Committee of Henan Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of Zhengzhou Municipal Party Committee, met with Academician Liu Jiongtian, vice chairman of Henan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and president of ZZU, and his entourage. Sun Xiaohong, Wu Fumin, deputy mayors of Zhengzhou City, ZZU leaders Qu Lingbo, Guan Shaokang, and Zhao Minghao also attended the meeting. The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges and reached broad consensus on jointly promoting the construction of ZZU as first-class university and strengthening city-university cooperation.

Xu Liyi thanked ZZU for contributing to the development of Zhengzhou City. He hoped that ZZU will further strengthen the construction of key disciplines, build a batch of world-class disciplines, and continuously improve the development level from points to surfaces; further promote the integration of industry, education and research, give full play to the role of alumni, do a good job in the transformation of scientific research fruits, and cooperate with local governments to creaｔe efficient platform of innovation; further optimize the professional settings and enrollment structure to better meet the needs of local industrial development and urban development; further increase the recruitment of excellent talents, guide innovation with talents, and steer development with innovation, and better promote high-quality development in Zhengzhou. Zhengzhou City will also continue to pay close attention to the development of ZZU, fully support building it into a world-class university, promote its continuously striving for supremacy, and thereby strive to achieve the coordinated progress of the construction of a national central city and the construction of a first-class university.

Liu Jiongtian first expressed his gratitude to Zhengzhou City for its long-term support to ZZU, and then briefly introduced ZZU’s first-class university construction from five aspects: the school’s basic situation, first-class construction planning, discipline development layout, comprehensive reform promotion, and the latest progress in first-class construction. He noted that on the basis of strict prevention and control of the current COVID-19 situation, ZZU is steadily advancing the normal operation of all work, and has made plans to arrange students to resume studies. In the next step, ZZU will further raise the benchmark, accelerate development, solidly promote the construction of a first-class university, and promote the in-depth development of university-city cooperation. By actively connecting with the industrial development needs of Zhengzhou, optimizing the layout of disciplines and specialties, and cultivating high-level application-oriented talents, we will provide strong talent support and scientific and technological support for the service of promoting economic and social development of Henan Province and Zhengzhou City.
