From August 1 to 10, the 11th World Korfball Championship was held in Durban, South Africa. ZZU took on the main task of this competition. Prof. Ma Xiangcheng was the head coach and Zhao Jing and other 11 students were athletes.
In the group stage, the Chinese team played against China’s Macao, Suriname and Hungary respectively, claiming three wins in straight sets. They defeated Slovakia in the cross-match on August 5 and entered the top eight of the World Championship. In the quarter-finals, the Chinese team tenaciously defeated the powerful Portugal and entered the semi-finals. Although in the subsequent semi-finals and final 3-4 match, our team regrettably lost to the current world champion Netherlands and the world’s second-ranked Chinese Taipei, still won the Chinese team’s best result in this event, a historic breakthrough.
