The 19th Academician Meeting of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the 14th Academician Meeting of the Chinese Academy of Engineering were grandly opened in the Great Hall of the People on the morning of May 28th. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, Chairman of the State and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended the meeting and delivered an important speech. Li Keqiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Premier of the State Council, Wang Huning, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of Secretariat of the Central Committee, and Han Zheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the meeting.

Wu Yangjie, Mai Songwei and Shen Changyu, ZZU academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Liu Jiongtian, Wang Fuming, He Jilin, Cui Junzhi and Nick Lemoine, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended the meeting. After the meeting, they expressed their feelings about attending the meeting.

On May 30th, titled “Facing Challenges, Innovation Creating the Future”, CCTV Topics in Focus Program reported that a vast number of scientific and technological workers talked about the resonance and enlightenment of the spirit of the important speech of General Secretary Xi. Liu Jiongtian, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Zhengzhou University, was interviewed by CCTV reporters.

Nick Lemoine, with other foreign academicians, had an official meeting with Vice Premier Liu He. Zhou Ji, President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, awarded academic certificates to newly elected foreign academicians.
