The other day, a symposium for the 90th birthday of Academician Wu Yangjie was held in ZZU. Many leaders and guests attended the symposium, including Academician Zhao Yufen of CAS, Academician Ding Kuiling of CAS, Director of Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, CAS, Prof. Xi Zhenfeng from Peking University, Academician of CAS, President Lukui from Zhengzhou Institute of Technology, Deputy Party Secretary Sun Xiaoqiang from Changzhou University, Mr. Ge Jiqian, former Deputy Director of Publicity Department of Henan Party Commission, Wang Jianji, former President of Henan University of Science and Technology, Yanglin, former Vice President of Henan Normal University, Prof. Remi Chauvin from French Toulouse University, some ZZU leaders, including Niu Shucheng, Liu Jiongtian, Qu Lingbo, Li Xingcheng, Wu Hongyang, joined by more than 200 representatives of chiefs, teachers and students from the related units, schools or departments. More than 60 institutions and individuals including CAS, Henan Normal University, Zhengzhou Institute of Technology sent their letters of congratulations to the symposium which was chaired by President Chang Junbiao of Henan Normal University.

Vice President Wu Hongyang read out a letter of congratulations from President Bai Chunli of CAS. Academician Zhao Yufen delivered an address on behalf of the guests. Academician Ding Kuiling presented a special issue of articles celebrating Academician Wu Yangjie’s 90th birthday.

Academician Wu Yangjie reviewed his life and academic careers, expressed his gratitude to his teachers who cared him in his course of schooling. He wished all the students could value the precious time by working hard.

Academician Ding Kuiling, Academician Xi Zhenfeng and Prof. Wu Yusheng respectively delivered academic reports entitled Chiral catalytic synthesis based on synergistic effect and Synthesis and Representation of Spiro-aromatic Compounds.(translator Song Gencheng)
