Recently, Prof. Dong Lin and Prof. Shan Chongxin from School of Physics Engineering, Zhengzhou University, jointly with the research personnel of Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics(CIOMP) under Chinese Academy of Sciences, utilized piezophototronic effect on the semiconductor lasers for the first time. The related achievements have been published online in the internationally renowned journal Advanced Materials, one of the leading international academic journals in the field of materials science with an impact factor of 18.960.

Based on the remarkable properties of relatively large exciton binding energy, easily formed nanostructure to apply pressure, and a high piezoelectric coefficient for notable piezoelectric effect, this research utilizes piezophototronic effect on the performance of semiconductor lasers for the first time. The results may provide a route to improve the performance of polar semiconductors laser devices, and start valuable explorations into the application of piezo-phototronic effect in the field of semiconductor laser devices.
