From Jan. 18 to 24, at the invitation of British Queen Mary’s University of London, Surrey University and Irish Dublin University, President Academician Liu Jiongtian paid a visit to British and Irish Universities with his delegation for educational exchanges.

At Queen Mary’s Universality of London, President Liu met and held talks with its President Simon Gaskell and other new friends. The highlights are both sides’ reviewing what a good cooperation they have enjoyed in the past 10 years, renewing the agreements of jointly founding Sino-UK molecular Tumor research Center and research cooperation, and signing a framework cooperation agreement between two universities, and reaching a consensus on an all-round cooperation. President Liu inspected Barts Cancer Institute and Barts Hospital of Queen Mary’s Universality of London, meeting and holding informal discussions with prominent experts in the field of cancer research, reaching a preliminary intention about foreign experts’ service in Zhengzhou University.

In University College London, President Liu held talks with Vice President Prof. Guo Zhengxiao, etc., who is in charge of Chinese affairs. Both sides held in-depth discussions in terms of promoting inter-university cooperation, exchanges of high-end talents etc., reaching a cooperation intention in the field of engineering and material science research, etc.

In Surrey University, President Liu held a formal interview with its President Prof. Max Lu, both conducting in-depth exchanges of opinions in terms of school-running modes, talents cultivation, and the internationalization of universities and how to conduct research cooperation and improve international impact. And a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the two sides.

In Irish Dublin University, President Liu interviewed Vice President Dolores O’Riordan, who is in charge of international affairs. Both sides compared notes in the cooperation fields of carrying out disciplines and research platform construction, and realizing mutual visits of staff and students, etc. President Liu reached cooperation intention with this university’s Medical College in terms of developing undergraduate-level joint high education program, co-constructIng overseas virtual research institute, etc. Preparations are to be made for inking a cooperative agreement. After the interview, President Liu and his delegation visited the Medical Research Center of Dublin University, exchanging opinions with the host over joint construction of medical platform.

During their stay in UK and Ireland, President Liu and his delegation visited Oxford University, Irish Trinity College, investigating two universities’ school-running systems, concepts and disciplinary development, etc. （translator Song Gencheng）
