An encouraging progress in the research of Parkinson's disease has been recently made by Professor Teng Junfang from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. The research achievement is published in the world's top journalNature Medicinewith the paper entitled "Impaired meningeal lymphatic drainage in patientswith idiopathic Parkinson’s disease". This study found that the function of meningeal lymphatic drainage decreased in patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease. Animal model studies were used to further illustrate the pathological mechanism, and a method of imaging technology to assess meningeal lymphatic drainage function was proposed. It was confirmed that the evaluation of meningeal lymphatic drainage based on this method has great application value for the early differential diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. It was confirmed that this method has strong applicability to the early differential diagnosis of Parkinson's disease.Furthermore, the molecular mechanism of α-synuclein aggregates inducing the dysfunction of meningeal lymphatic drainage was revealed and this provides a new theory for the mechanism of meningeal lymphatic vessel dysfunction in neurodegenerative diseases.Prof. Teng Junfang, associate professor Wang Xuejing, both of The First Affiliated Hospital of ZZU and Professor Ma Mingming of Henan Provincial People’s Hospital are the co-corresponding authors of the paper; associate professor Ding Xuebing of the First Affiliated Hospital is its first author.
