From September 21 to 22, the Second China-ASEAN Youth Forum was held at ZZU. Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of the China-ASEAN Center, Liu Jin, Director of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office at Ministry of Education, Kong Roatlomang, Director of Department of Education, Culture and Tourism at the China-ASEAN Center, Tan Jianguang,Vice President of Chinese Young Volunteers Association, Mao Jie, Deputy Director of the Henanˊs Education Department, Rong Xihai, Assistant Director-General of Department of Education of Henan Province, President Academician Liu Jiongtian and Vice President Han Guohe of ZZU attended the opening ceremony, joined by officials from Ministry of Education, China-ASEAN Center, Education Department of Henan, Embassy of ASEAN countries in Beijing, representatives of students who came from the ASEAN and China and were studying in 11 universities of Henan including ZZU.Vice President Han Guohe chaired the opening ceremony.
President Liu delivered a welcome speech. He said that China-ASEAN Youth Forum was of great importance in promoting the ideology construction for young students and future development and friendly cooperation of China and ASEAN. He believed that this forum would definitely be a bridge for young people of both sides to strengthen communication and learn from each other, and make new contributions to promoting the China-ASEAN cultural exchanges and enhancing mutual understanding.
Deputy Director-general Mao, on behalf of Educational Department of Henan, congratulated upon the successful hosting of the forum. She hoped this forum would strengthen communication and cooperation between China-ASEAN youth, enhance friendship and mutual trust, strengthen responsibility, and create a community of shared future for mankind together through this forum.
Secretary-General Yang introduced the basic condition of China-ASEAN Center since its establishment. She said that this forum provided a meaningful platform to discuss social responsibility of youth, enabling both youths to better serve the community development, and understand more deeply the challenges that young volunteers face at work.
On behalf of the ASEAN, Abdul Aziz How Abdullah from the Malaysian embassy in Beijing expressed gratitude for his opportunity of this exchanges offered by the China-ASEAN Center.
Director Liu noted in his speech that the forum would serve as a platform for the communications between China-ASEAN youths, raise the leadership awareness and strengthen the responsibility of the young, which would have a positive effect on the development of the China-ASEAN’s community of shared future.
After the opening ceremony, participating experts and scholars made a keynote speech separately, and young students from China, Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia and Laos had an in-depth discussion.
On the morning of Sept 22, leaders, guests and representatives of youth visited Xinjiayuan Community, inquiring about the community construction as well as the youth volunteer activities in Central China. In the afternoon, delegates of Henan’s universities and those of Embassy of ASEAN countries had a thorough discussion on the education cooperation including promoting more students from ASEAN to Henan’s universities, dispatching more Chinese teachers to ASEAN countries and strengthening bilateral collaboration, etc.
On the afternoon of Sept 22, the forum held the closing ceremony where youth delegates from China, Laos and Indonesia presented their communication results of sub-forums. Vice President Han made a conclusion, and Rong Xihai, Assistant Director-General of Department of Education of Henan province and director of International Office, delivered a closing speech.(translator Song Gencheng)
