On the evening of Dec.31, ZZU’s series of New year activities started as expected, seeing the appearance of University leadership, including Niu Shucheng, Liu Jiongtian, Qu Lingbo, Li Xingcheng, Jia Shaoxin, Zhang Qianhong, Xu Dongsheng, Guan Shaokang, Han Guohe, Wu Hongyang, Zhao Minghao, who came to celebrate New Year Countdown together with masses of teachers and students.

At 19 pm, 2018 New Yearˊs Art Gala of Zhengzhou University opened in the Central Stadium. The national flag was escorted by guards into the stadium. In the solemn music of national anthem, the five-star national flag was raised. Then school authority gave commendations and awards to the advanced units and individuals in student work of 2017.

In the beginning of New Year Art Gala, President Academician Liu Jiongtian delivered address for the new year of 2018. He reviewed the remarkable achievements made by ZZU in terms of party construction, talent training, teaching staff construction, academic output, campus culture construction, foreign cooperation and exchanges etc. Liu noted that ZZU is facing a new era, embarking upon a new journey so that we must innovate with a pioneering spirit, promote solidly first-class construction, contributing ZZU force for the final victory of comprehensive prosperity and national modernization.

New Year Art Gala divides into three parts: Greeting New Era, Building Dream at a new Starting Point and Striding on a New Journey, symbolizing ZZU in the new era will take the entry into First-Class university construction sequence as a new starting point and stride on a new journey.

At midnight, under the witness of teachers and students, the chiming of new year bell was trusted to the hands of Niu Shucheng, Liu Jiongtian, Prof. Mai Wenning from School of Water Conservancy and Environment, who is recipient of Second National Prize for 2016 Science and Technology Progress, Associate Prof. Fu Xiaoli, from School of Public Health, Henan Most Beautiful Teacher in 2017, Mr. Liu Ketang, the Most Beautiful Logistics Staff in 2017, from Food and Drinks Corporation of Logistics Group, Undergraduate Zhao Jianzhuang of grade 2014, from the School of Mechanical Engineering, the recipient of Baogang Excellent Student Special Award.

Year of 2017 was over in cheers. The coming 2018 will see ZZU standing at the new starting point of constructing a First-class University, face a new era, embark upon a new journey, undertake new mission and win new honors with her indomitable spirit.(translator Song Gencheng)
