Zhengzhou University (ZZU), a national "211 Project" and "Double First-Class" university,announced the renaming of its music school to Zhengzhou University's Henan Conservatory of Music in 2022. Dai Yuqiang, a renowned Chinese tenor, is now appointed as the dean.
Rooted in the profound culture of Central China's Henan province and fostering a diverse academic environment, ZZU boasts comprehensive development across 12 disciplines. The newly named Henan Conservatory of Music strengthens this multidisciplinary foundation.
The conservatory features three core departments, including vocal music, instrumental music, and theory and dance. It holds a key distinction as an excellent traditional Chinese culture heritage base. Academically, it offers robust undergraduate programs in music performance, musicology, and dance studies. At the graduate level, it provides master's degrees in music and dance studies, along with a professional master of fine arts degree.
A distinguished faculty forms the backbone of the conservatory, including members of national arts education committees, Henan provincial music association leaders, and recipients of prestigious teaching and academic awards in Henan.
Since its establishment, the conservatory has excelled in talent development and research. Faculty have secured over 30 national grants, including projects from the National Social Science Fund of China and the China National Arts Fund. Students and faculty have won more than 100 awards in significant domestic and international competitions and performances, which underscores the conservatory's vital role as a cultural hub and educator within Henan and beyond.
