The final round of the Henan Provincial College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition took place at Zhengzhou University (ZZU) on Aug 30.
The event was attended by prominent figures including Wang Gang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Henan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, Song Zhenghui, vice-governor of Henan province, and Li Chengwei, secretary of the ZZU Party committee. Around 300 participants, including government officials, educators, students, and industry representatives, gathered to celebrate student innovation.
Li Peng, president of ZZU, welcomed attendees and highlighted the university's commitment to integrating innovation and entrepreneurship into education. She emphasized the competition's role in providing a platform for young innovators to showcase their talents and collaborate with peers and industry leaders, fostering an ecosystem that encourages creativity and entrepreneurial spirit.
The competition featured nine tracks, including high-end equipment, intelligent manufacturing, and new materials. It received 315,000 project entries from 138 universities, with over 1.2 million participants. To date, 891 projects have secured preliminary investment deals amounting to 390 million yuan ($54.68 million).
After multiple rounds of selection, 435 projects advanced to the provincial finals, with 133 receiving gold, silver, and bronze awards. The championship was claimed by the flood-control engineering project of ZZU's team. The event also facilitated the signing of cooperation agreements between 12 outstanding student projects and enterprises.
The competition effectively showcased Henan's innovative talent development, highlighting the entrepreneurial spirit of its youth. It served as a platform for transforming research into productive forces, supporting China's modernization efforts and strengthening Henan's position as a hub of innovation and talent.
