Zhengzhou University (ZZU) hosted the first national symposium and exhibition on calligraphy education on Sept 20.
The event saw participation from key figures such as Ding Xiangyang, chairman of the Chinese Calligraphy Education Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, Yang Guang, deputy director of the Education Department of Henan Province and Ye Peigui, vice-chairman of the Chinese Calligraphy Association. Over 150 calligraphy education experts and university representatives from around the country attended the event.

Li Chengwei, secretary of the ZZU Party committee, emphasized the university's commitment to preserving and innovating calligraphy as an essential cultural art form. He also highlighted the university's achievements in building a comprehensive education system for calligraphy, including undergraduate to doctoral programs and the publication of an academic journal. Li noted that hosting this symposium and exhibition aligns with the university's mission to enhance cultural prosperity and strengthen its humanities and arts disciplines.
Yang praised the province's rich calligraphic heritage and the role of ZZU in advancing calligraphy education. He noted that 16 universities in Henan offer calligraphy-related programs, with ZZU leading in innovation and discipline development.
Ding underscored the significance of this first national event since the Chinese Calligraphy Education Steering Committee's establishment. He acknowledged the progress in calligraphy education and the challenges ahead, stressing the need for dialogue and collaboration to foster a sustainable environment for calligraphy education.
