The 2025 Magnesium Science and Technology Award Ceremony and International Magnesium Materials Summit, hosted by the International Magnesium Association (IMA) and the Journal of Magnesium Alloys, recently took place in Ma'anshan, Anhui province.
Professor Guan Shaokang from Zhengzhou University's (ZZU) School of Materials Science and Engineering was awarded the prestigious 2025 International Magnesium Science and Technology Award for Person of the Year.
This accolade recognizes three to five global experts annually for their outstanding contributions to magnesium science and technology, particularly in research, development, and application. Guan's recognition underscores the international magnesium community's high regard for his significant contributions to magnesium metal materials research.
During the concurrent summit, Guan delivered a keynote presentation, highlighting ZZU's latest advancements and breakthroughs in biodegradable magnesium alloy biomedical materials and devices, drawing considerable interest from attending experts. Additionally, at the Journal of Magnesium Alloys' international editorial board meeting, he was honored as "Outstanding Editor of the Year" for his significant contributions to the journal's development and academic promotion.
The International Magnesium Science and Technology Awards, established by the International Magnesium Society, the Journal of Magnesium Alloys, and the Cai Xin Foundation, aim to inspire global scientists and engineers involved in magnesium research and innovation, promoting scientific progress and industrial applications for magnesium materials.
