Zhengzhou University (ZZU) has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (HKIHSS) at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), marking a significant step toward interdisciplinary collaboration in archaeology. The partnership aims to integrate traditional fieldwork with cutting-edge quantitative and data-driven methodologies.
A ZZU delegation led by Han Guohe, dean of the Songyang Academy of Advanced Studies visited HKU for discussions with Chen Zhiwu, director of HKIHSS. The talks focused on academic development, joint research initiatives, and collaborative talent cultivation.
Han highlighted ZZU's commitment to international engagement and its strengths in field archaeology and cultural heritage preservation. He emphasized that partnering with a globally renowned institution like HKU would bring fresh momentum to archaeological innovation at ZZU.
Chen commended ZZU's long-standing expertise in practical archaeology and noted the complementary nature of HKU's strengths in quantitative history and big data analysis.

The two sides signed a strategic agreement and will work toward establishing regular faculty and student exchanges, launching substantive research projects, and building shared platforms for academic collaboration. This partnership is expected to contribute to the interdisciplinary evolution of Chinese archaeology and enhance its global academic presence.
During the visit, the delegation also met with researchers at City University of Hong Kong to explore potential cooperation in joint research funding, academic exchanges, and shared laboratory facilities.
