A symposium on collaborative innovation for ecological protection of the Yellow River Basin was held in Zhengzhou, bringing together leading academicians, researchers, and industry representatives. The event focused on building a coordinated innovation system, tackling key technical challenges, and translating research into practice.
Li Peng, president of Zhengzhou University (ZZU), noted that ecological protection of the river requires interdisciplinary and cross-regional collaboration. She reaffirmed ZZU's commitment to advancing research in environmental science, water resource management, and smart water systems, leveraging the university's various strengths.
Wang Fuming, academic director of the Yellow River Laboratory (Henan), reported on the laboratory's progress. The laboratory has established two major technology systems and is accelerating the application of technology through its Pingyu pilot base.
Participants from Shandong University, Chang'an University, and other institutions shared practical experiences in river and lake management and ecological dredging. Recommendations included strengthening original innovation, establishing regular cross-regional exchange mechanisms, jointly applying for national key laboratories, and enhancing research on dam safety and disaster prevention.
The symposium resulted in consensus on joint research, platform sharing, and technology transfer. ZZU will continue to play a central role in promoting multi-disciplinary collaboration to support the high-quality development and ecological protection of the Yellow River Basin.
