ZZU Held 2017 Sino-US “Urbanization, Globalization and Climate Change” Symposium

On July 8, sponsored by ZZU, jointly organized by Henan Urban and Rural Planning & Design Institute and Henan Technical College of Construction, 2017 Sino-US Urbanization, Globalization and Climate Change Symposium was held in Zhengzhou. Those who attended the symposium were Robert Orr, Dean of School of Public Policy, Maryland University, the former Vice Secretary-General of UN, Martin O’Malley, the former Governor of Maryland State, Long Guoqiang,Vice Director of Development Research Center of the State Council, Liu Shangxi, Director General of Chinese Academy of Fiscal Sciences, Pan Jiahua, Director General of Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Socail Sciences, Academician Liu Jiongtian, President of ZZU, Prof. Mao Qizhi, Vice Dean of School of Architecture of Tsinghua University, Jiang Yulin, vice chief engineer of Transportation Institute of the Ministry of Transport, Zhang Zhancang, Henan Academy of Social Sciences, Pei Zhiyang, Director General of Henan Provincial Department of Urban-Rural Development, Distinguished Professor of ZZU, Prof. Ding Richeng of Maryland University, along with famous experts and scholars, related leaders both home and abroad, joined by more than 200 participants from colleges and universities at home, related institutions of research, and ZZU faculty and students. The opening ceremony was chaired by Vice President Prof. Liu Guoji of ZZU.

President Liu addressed at the opening ceremony. He stressed that ZZU set up ZZU City Development Research Center, targeting at the major issues and challenges facing Henan urbanization development and regional economic and social development, trying its best to provide Henan CPC Party Committee and Henan government with policy-making consulting, and promoting scientific and intelligent development of Henan urbanization development. He wished this symposium could be grasped as a good opportunity to contribute to pushing forward the coordinated development of urbanization, globalization and weather changes.

With a theme focusing on “internationalization and weather changes”, “urbanization, city and regional development’ and “urbanization, weather changes and regional action”, this symposium was held in three branch forums.

Those who made special reports respectively were Long Guoqiang,Vice Director of Development Research Center of the State Council, Martin O’Malley, the former Governor of Maryland State, Robert Orr, the former Vice Secretary-General of UN, Liu Shangxi, Director General of Chinese Academy of Fiscal Sciences, Pan Jiahua, Director General of Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Prof. Ding Richeng etc,. At the end of branch forums, the honored guests held a round-table meeting around the theme of “Globalization, Urbanization, Weather Changes and Henan Development”.(translator Song Gencheng)
